You already know what a special place our neighborhood is in which to live, work, go to school and play. A good neighborhood doesn’t just happen. For more than 40 years, Wallingford neighbors have joined together to improve and protect our community through the Wallingford Community Council (WCC), a non-profit community organization of volunteers.
The WCC provides a place and process for neighbors to engage with each other to address neighborhood opportunities, challenges, and issues. The WCC has a history of helping to shape city policies and decisions affecting our neighborhood. Topics we work on include:
Land Use:
Industrial and commercial
development of the neighborhood, examples:
Redevelopment of
the Transfer Station and the Stone 34 project
Multi-family
residential development - design quality, height and density
Protection of our
Lake Union shoreline
Amenity
development: playgrounds, pea patches and pocket parks
Transportation:
Impacts from SR
520 expansion
Increasing
east-west traffic volumes
Arterial
crossings: flag buckets and crosswalks
Bike ways and bike
friendly streets
Bus route service
and redevelopment
Parking
Quality of Life:
Pedestrian safety
Crime
Sustainability
Noise: Commercial,
I-5, Residential
